Can the elders make up stuff to make sure that a brother pretty much never gets to be elder?
by toto555 init's been my observation that if the elders really want a brother to become elder, then they will come up with all the reasons in the world to appoint him.
the reverse is also true.
if the elders really don't want a brother to become elder, then they will make up all sorts of reasons not to appoint him despite perhaps the brothers many years in the truth, great talks, spirituality etc.

It is more of strecthing the out truth for the better or worse.
I was instrumental in getting a fellow Elder deleted because I felt he babied his adult son too much and I felt the boy(25 years old) just liked to play alot, live off his parents, do as little work as possible, setting a bad example for our youth.
After my deletion, I went back to this Brother and apologized for my immature behavior and begged for his forgiveness. The way he handled his son was none of my business and should not have influenced my treatment of him.
He forgave me and we now have a great relationship!
His son is married and now a MS, and this Brother just got re-appointed as an Elder.

Your wife sounds like my wife, although she has no problems missing meetings, she is very loyal to the organization.
Would like to here more of your story, I too struggle with the "Overlapping, Flipping Generation" explanations.

English Speaking Congregations in Mexico...
by DATA-DOG inhas anyone read a letter or heard of english-speaking congos being shut down in mexico?
an elder told me that this was happening, and that it was based on a "scriptural precedent.
" sounds like downsizing with a made-up bs reason to me.

Ran into a friend at an Assembly 2 months ago named R.R. He has been in Mexico serving as an Elder for the past 8 years. Him and his wife were having 23 Bible Studies a month all with Spanish people, although they were in an English Congregation(the spanish wanted to learn English).
Then a letter from the Branch said that English study with English, Spanish with Spanish.
That left everyone in the Congregation without Bible studies. English friends started leaving Mexico, including R.R. with his wife.
He said 7 English Congregations disbanded in his area.

by confusedandalone inso this morning the wife and i went to cracker barrel for breakfast.
my lovely sister watched the kids for us last night so we have to pick them up later.. anyway a few minutes later the family sits at a table next to us.
their food comes and they begin to pray.they all join hands and he begins praying out loud.. very loud.. so out of respect my wife and i stop talking... they eat and we eat no biggie.

Tell me you didn't say the "Penis" thing to this guy!
If you did, you got a chuckle out of me and the point brought home.
Solid "A" for today's performance. I hope you were able to finish your meal!
